Portugal debuted in Eurovision in 1964, winning in 2017 with Salvador Sobral's "Amar pelos dois." The 2018 host finish last. Absent in 1970, 2000, 2002, 2013, and 2016, Portugal recorded varied results, including a sixth place in 1996. Festival da Canção is the national selection method.
