Azerbaijan joined Eurovision in 2008, winning in 2011. Notable for five consecutive top-five results (2009-2013). Two non-qualifications in 2018 and 2023. Azerbaijan holds the record for the lowest average score for a winning song. The country spent ₼300 million (€160 million) on hosting the 2012 contest, the most ever by a host country as of 2022. Eurovision is immensely popular in Azerbaijan, a matter of "national pride."
